Wallet Security
A practical crypto wallet security checklist.
Most wallet security is not one setting. It is a chain of decisions from login security to destination verification.
Protect account access first
- Use a strong and unique password where passwords are used
- Use available multi-factor or passkey security
- Review active sessions
- Revoke sessions you do not recognize
- Protect the email account tied to recovery
Treat every destination address as sensitive
Malware and social engineering can replace or misrepresent wallet addresses. Compare the destination carefully before authorization.
For larger transfers, users may choose to make a smaller test transaction first when practical, but even a test does not replace verifying the network and destination.
Verify the blockchain network
The same asset symbol may appear on multiple networks. Sending to an incompatible network can make recovery difficult or impossible.
Always confirm both the asset and the network supported by the receiving wallet or service.
Do not trust urgency
Wallet scams often try to create urgency: an expiring reward, frozen account, fake security alert or unexpected investment opportunity.
Security decisions are safer when you verify the request independently rather than following links or instructions supplied by the person creating the pressure.
Use transparent wallet infrastructure
Public service-status pages, vulnerability-reporting processes and clear security documentation do not eliminate risk, but they provide useful evidence about how a wallet operator handles security and incidents.
VaultFi publishes dedicated Trust, Security and Status resources for this reason.
Frequently asked questions
There is no single universal mistake, but phishing, compromised account access, incorrect destination addresses and incorrect network selection are common sources of loss.
Usually not in the same way as card payments. Once a valid blockchain transaction is confirmed, reversal generally requires cooperation from the recipient or another network-specific recovery path.
